Many owners are providing year round telephone service in their condos, especially for their winter guests. In the past, our Canadian snowbirds usually requested and expected this, since using their Canadian mobile phones was cost-prohibitive. MagicJack devices are less than $50/year to provide this service, so many owners opted into this service.
This fall, we discovered that many of the phone systems had been disconnected by guests during the season (without a single complaint) and not used by short term guests. We reconnected all of the devices in November, and in March, we analyzed the phone usage for our winter guests. This past season, only one or two calls were made into one condo across all of the condos, and the calls were not even answered. Snowbirds are starting to purchase US calling packages or pickup pay as you go phones, so their needs have changed. With this is mind, we will no longer recommend providing the phone services, and we will no longer advertise it as available unless you request that we continue it.
We will keep several MagicJack devices and phone hardware systems available in our storage, however, should a snowbird request it. In that case, we will bill the snowbird an additional fee for the add-on service to cover the renewal and use of the device, at no expense to the owner.
All devices will be removed over the next few months, and all Magic Jack renewals will be turned off at the end of their current subscription. You will not see any further billings for this service.
